Hello, my name is...

Darren Rigo.

I was born in....

A hospital in Milton, ON.

I currently live in....

A wee apartment in Toronto.

It all started when....

I was six or seven, and I used to go on adventures around my parents farm ...and when I would wake up early to collect the maple sap in the spring before getting on the bus for school.

Since then my work has become...

more complex. When I moved from the sticks into the big city I gained perspective on how most of Western society functions; how we relate to each other and to nature. I met people who had never ambled aimlessly trough a forest, or squeezed the milk from a milkweed or watched the sun light up the low fog over a field in the fall mornings. I learned that more than 80% of our population lives in urban centres and that very few people can even begin understand the intimate relationship with nature I grew up with and feel is so essential.

My favorite tool of the trade is...

shameless self-promotion: WWW.DARRENRIGO.COM ...and using the palm of my hand to measure the quality of light, good light excites me.

My ideal work environment...

is a pine forest at sunrise.

I spend my days/nights...

daydreaming. I'm an ideas person. My mom says I'm absent minded (I frequently would put the cereal in the fridge and the milk in the pantry) but its only because I always have a new idea I'm mulling over in my head.

I'm currently under the influence of...

my amazing OCAD thesis panel ...and Joel Sternfeld.

I waste a lot of...

...I don't.

It sure would be nice to have a dumpster full of...

old family photographs or quality astroturf.

My buried treasure will consist of....

a Canada Council for the Arts production grant.

and be guarded by....

an assessment committee easily swayed by my cunning linguistics.

I wish more people saw the value in...

the simple things that really count.

My last word(s)...

would be, "To die will be an awfully big adventure."
