Introducing the Illiterate Comic

Sometimes they make us laugh, and sometimes they make us cry. And no, I'm not talking about your self indulgent pill-popping transvestite step-daddy, I'm referring to the world of comics. Ever since our Neanderthal ancestors doodled their surroundings on cave walls we have been in a love affair with the image as a story. We have over the years developed the need to project our wants, fears, and emotions onto hapless and heroic characters alike through art and literature. Although the comic would seemingly be an instant form or art loved and admired by all since it couples our romance with the image and the word, it has instead been pushed under the radar. Although the form of comics is a fairly new one (and there is a growing sub-culture naturally drawn to it) it is often frowned upon as a sub-par form of art reserved for outcasts and loser like me. They are often printed cheaply and looked upon as childsplay or something even worse; simple and easy. However, for those of us in the know its just the opposite. Comics are hardly ever just one line cracks and slapstick comedy, they are inherently dark and often deep and complex. And here at Illiterate magazine we are very sorry your mom destroyed your collection when you were and awkward teen going through puberty with only your comics to save you. We feel your pain, and in turn we offer you a place to share your comix, replacing the embarrassment with a network of those dedicated to expanding on the idea of what a comic could be. The submissions should be as varied as your neighborhood comic book store , ranging from Superman to freaky fetish anime and beyond. Here at Illiterate Magazine we encourage you to explore that beyond (i say so because Superman's already been done, and my hard drive is already at capacity with freaky fetish anime) and share with our community your artwork. If not for just for the love of it, then to show people what comics are really all about.
