PDX Fever

PDX Fever

Greetings Illiterati. Your friendly neighborhood film editor is here blogging from the amazing Portland, OR. (okay, okay, I wrote this blog from Portland but now I am back in amazing Colorado).

"But why are you in Portland, Isis?"

"Good Question. It is because I just attended the BEST FILM FESTIVAL EVER !"

"What film festival was that?"

"The PDX Film Festival !"

Ok. But Seriously. The Portland Documentary and Experimental Film Festival was hands down one of the greatest experiences I have had. Boulder is home of the late, great Stan Brakhage and has a pretty dense population of experimental film lovers, but the Portland locals gave us a run for our money. It warmed my insides to see that every scheduled program was packed with fans, all there to celebrate independent experimental artists! From the opening night program in Memoriam of Bruce Conner to the featured artists programs featuring Ben Coonley and Peggy Ahwesh to the Experimental Filmmaker Karaoke Throwdown (yes, it was as awesome as it sounds) to the Peripheral Produce Invitational aka The World Championship of Experimental Cinema to the DIY 3D workshop to all of shorts and features, every program was top notch.

There truly was too much awesome to pack into one blog, but be sure to watch over the next few months, as I am sure the talented artists I got to rub elbows with will make some appearances.

Here is the film that won the Peripheral Produce Invitational aka The World Championship of Experimental Cinema. This was one of my favorite programs of the entire festival, complete with funny lighthearted entries which were packed with talent, hollers from the audience, live performances, and bingo to keep the audience patient during the reel changes.
